How to Guide – Reheating your My Little Foodie Meals

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]At My Little Foodie,  , but it’s important that you do not partially reheat food for your baby to avoid having to wait for it to cool down! Unless served cold straight from the fridge, food should always be reheated until piping hot; which means steaming throughout, in order to kill off bacteria.

But why?

When reheating food, there is a ‘danger zone’ between 8°C and 63°C which is the range where harmful bacteria can multiply rapidly. In order to make sure the food you serve your baby is as safe as possible, you want to make sure you avoid putting food straight into this ‘danger zone’ and instead reheat until piping hot to ensure that any bacteria has been killed off.

Reheating Methods

Foods can be safely reheated either;
  • In the microwave
  • On the hob
  • In the oven
Whichever method chosen to reheat, it’s important to make sure it’s piping hot all the way throughout. If using a microwave to reheat, be aware that they will heat food unevenly; which could cause food to be very hot at the edges and cold in the centre where bacteria could thrive. To avoid this, ensure that any food reheated in the microwave is stirred regularly and checked that the food is steaming throughout before serving.

Reheating Stage 1 or Stage 2 Purees

Wherever possible, it is always best to defrost the food for your baby overnight within the refrigerator before reheating… However, it is also very easy to reheat our Stage 1 and Stage 2 purees straight from frozen for added convenience! Just make sure you:
  • Increase the cooking time to allow for the item to defrost and reheat thoroughly
  • Stir regularly (approximately every 20-30 seconds) to make sure that the puree is heated evenly
  • Ensure it is piping hot throughout and then allow to cool before serving

How many times can food be Reheated?

Food should only be reheated once - so make sure you divide your meals into baby friendly portions before storing in the fridge or freezer and only reheat as much as you need! For more information, check out our pages on Cooking, Defrosting or our FAQs![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
